MONT-LOUIS

Built ex-nihilo between 1679 and 1681 to hold the strategic lock at the crossroads of the Conflent, Capcir and Cerdagne valleys, the stronghold of Mont-Louis is one of the twelve Vauban fortifications which were included in 2008 on the list of UNESCO world heritage .

This international recognition is the translation of the exceptional character of the environment in which the National Commando Training Center - 1er CHOC (CNEC) has been operating since its installation in the citadel in 1964.It is also one of the last military units to occupy a structure designed by Vauban, which makes it a de facto player in this dynamic.
